Dubai’s Al Bayan had an article last week provocatively titled “Atheism: Why is it spreading?” The article gave
the impression that there is a "growing tendency" among youth in the Gulf societies
to become atheists. The author of the article, Dr. Sajed Al Abdali, based his
observations mostly on reading Twitter and Facebook. However, to be fair to Al Abdali
he is not unique, as journalism in the Middle East is gradually becoming a
process of recycling tweets and posts.
As expected the article subject-matter was juicy enough to garner hysterical responses from his readers. The author summarized the comments received and agreed with "all" of them. So what were the comments received? Excerpt from The National:
