Hate to gloat but Gallup numbers are refreshing and show that there is still hope in Egypt and Egyptians despite lack of education, media bias, constant brainwashing by religious figures and poverty. So let's analyze the good news:
- Islamists appear to be losing steam with only 42% of Egyptians polled say they support the Muslim Brotherhood, a noticeable decline from 63% back in February 2012. Support for Salafis is also down.
- Egyptians' support for the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) fell 24 percentage points to 43% in April after reaching a high of 67% in February. Support for the Salafi Nour Party is now at 30%.
- If Gallup numbers are reasonably accurate, I'd say this is excellent news for presidential candidates not linked to the Islamists (e.g., Abol Fotouh and Moussa) as it seems Egyptians are in the mood to punish the Muslim Brotherhood for their reckless power grab and the way they managed the parliament and Constituent Assembly.
Analysis above is based on Gallup numbers.
