In an interview with Ahmra Online, Nasserist presidential candidate Hamdeen Sabbahi said the following in response to a question on whether trials of Mubarak and his top aides are progressing well:
I am dissatisfied with the course justice has taken with regard to the trials of members of the Mubarak regime. The people have passed a sentence of death on the regime and the judiciary should take their verdict into account.
It is disappointing when a "serious" presidential candidate and a well known politician ignores the judicial process and starts thinking a like a soccer fan or a reality TV show host. The "people in the street" have spoken is not how justice is served. I personally believe Mubarak and Sons are corrupt and are responsible for many other crimes including, torture but the courts' system should not be run by "the people have passed a sentence of death" but by evidence. This is where Sabbahi should be angry as the trial was/is a fiasco and he should tell us how as a president he would ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law, not cheap rhetoric.
