Yussif Haron, a Tunis-based political analyst, is glad Tunisia is not Egypt after Ennahda refused calls from conservatives for a new constitution based on sharia. Below an excerpt from BikyaMasr
"What we see is the Ennahda party showing what it means to be in government. They understand that they do not have the ability push an Islamic state, and I doubt they would even want to. They are much more like Turkey’s AKP than Egypt’s Brotherhood.”
I'd say Haron is too optimistic. Below is an excerpt from Tunisia Live:
"A group of several thousand Salafists and their supporters demonstrated in downtown Tunis today in support of the Koran, claiming that the Muslim holy book was under threat by more secular elements of Tunisian society. Demonstrators climbed the clock tower of Tunis to fly black caliphate flags from the top of the tower and chanted slogans such as “the people want a new caliphate.”
