Tank Girl (art exhibition) description from Gallery Misr:
Addressing the existing fears of a persistent patriarchal military dictatorship in the present Egyptian context, Nadine Hammam’s painting, Tank Girl, invokes a formula of power inversion, in which woman assumes control over one of the most masculine symbols of military power, the Tank. The painting depicts a female nude figure sitting astride a pink tank with an over-sized cannon, spitting rats instead of bullets. The artist's manipulation of such complex symbols suggests a more assertive role for women to ridicule and bring down this military power along with its associates. ‘You can beat us, strip us, gas us, arrest and virginity test us but in the end, we will prevail.
