Kuwaiti
authorities arrested a man late on Tuesday for insulting the Prophet Mohammad,
his companions and his wife via a tweet. Blasphemy is illegal in Kuwait but
unlike Saudi Arabia it is not punishable by death. The
ministry of interior “regretted the abusing of social networks by some
individuals to offend basic Islamic and spiritual values, vowing to show zero
tolerance in combating such serious offences,” it said in the statement.
First Saudi Arabia and now Kuwait, the sad part is this would take place in most Muslim countries, including Egypt, where hysterical overreaction is common and used, by mostly corrupt and authoritarian regimes, to distract the public and position themselves as defenders of Islam.
